What the heck is an InstaMom? A mom who monetizes motherhood. I should know. (I’m doing it myself…) Seven years after starting ‘The FAB Mom,’ I still don’t quite know how to describe my career. I’ve got one foot working in TV, one foot working in the digital influencer world and another foot working in the writer/contributor world (where that third foot comes from I have no idea). And then I sometimes host family-friendly events (a fourth foot).
My mom would always ask, “I have no idea how you get paid for what you do…” Neither do I, Mom.
So, in the interest of trying to explain one of my ‘feet’ that’s sprung from creating this thing called ‘The FAB Mom,’ I thought to take a stab at explaining the ‘digital influencer world’ as it pertains to regular moms making money by capitalizing on Instagram in a news package that aired on CBS Los Angeles.
That’s right, a current public school teacher (Carly of Lipgloss and Crayons!) and office manager (Claudia of The Penny Closet!) were so gracious to let me ask ’em all sorts of personal questions about posting pictures with their kids on Instagram and then reaping monetary earnings from it. Granted, some of my personal questions and their answers didn’t make it into this fast & furious 2-minute piece… but here’s a glimpse into the world of “Insta-Moms” and the major moola they can make.
