How to manage teen use of social media so they don’t get into trouble? Shut it all down. Just kidding. I mean, we definitely can to prove a point but chances are we can’t shut down teens’ social media usage forever. I mean, they’re TEENS. They find ways (so I’m told from friends who are parents of actual real life teens…)
Recently, I attended SafeSmartSocial.com‘s Digital Citizenship conference and learned a whole lotta fabulous tips and tricks about how to teach our kids to safely manage some of their online habits — you know, to stay out of preventable trouble now and in their future adult lives too. (I also got the chance to meet the savvy creators of brand new unGlue app — an inventive tool that helps teach kids and teens how to manage their time and create better habits in accordance with what they’re doing on a screen…. CHECK THEM OUT, pretty clever).
I feel totally equipped now for when my 6 and 5 year olds turn 16 and 15 — until everything changes before then, at least. So here’s me passing along what I’ve learned to you via CBS Los Angeles.
