How to have less stress as a parent? We need to say the word “No” more. What?! Yes parents, I’m talking to us. Because we’re overwhelmed, overspent, overworked and just plain over IT. So why not do ourselves a favor and say NO when we need to? We discussed on CBS Los Angeles recently. (I think anchor Serene Branson and I are kindred spirits in this department, if I may say so… hey, we are fellow UCLA Bruins):
Ok Jill. Put your money where your big mouth is. How have I said NO this year? I’ll spill:
I said NO to enrolling my 6 year old into a 3-day-a-week gymnastics program. Why? Because she’s SIX and it’s not necessary right now. (She’s talented, but I think we have another year or so before we go full-throttle in the scheduling dept…??)
I said NO to volunteering for a PTA committee because my work schedule simply could not accommodate it without stress/drama/exhaustion on my part.
I said NO to driving across town to attend a few events (that I actually really wanted to go to) because I was already overbooked for the day, and even if I’d gotten there, I would’ve been a dead woman walking. That’s no good. So I said NO.
I said NO to those birthday parties this year where we knew the sweet kids, weren’t really close friends, and just couldn’t swing it on account of sacrificing family time for it. (Sorry, but family comes first. It’s okay.)
YOU CAN SAY NO TOO. JUST DO IT. TRUST ME. (And trust WorkKidsWine.com too — they put major research into this ‘just say no’ *filosophy*…)
