“I’ve been hostile for a month,” I literally just told my sister on the phone. “Why?” she said. “I don’t know,” I answered. The words ‘how can parents relieve stress’ have been at top of mind lately. So much for being a FAB Mom. (This FAB Mom doesn’t seem to have stress management mastered… I blame the pursuit of press for my precious new book, lately.)
Seriously, I’m telling you: I. DON’T. KNOW. WHY. MY. CRANKINESS. WON’T. SCRAM. I dare you to challenge me about a mom’s right to be cranky. I will duel you to the death (or until one of us gives up just because we’re just tired of arguing).
So I thought, “What can I do to make myself less cranky?” (The irony that I address all sorts of these topics every week on TV. All my ‘parenting lifestyle’ conversations are REAL, ladies and gents.) So we talked about meditation — not in a zulu-voodoo kind of way, but in an easily-accessible way that most of us parents can implement while standing in line at the grocery store, sitting at our computers or just driving around in our cars. I discovered these tips from various sources and experts — one of the experts even suggested that I take more time to ‘focus on my feet’ while sitting down — doing this is supposed to ground you and make you feel more centered. Admittedly, it kinda works when I try it. Try it.)
Maybe I should heed my own advice more often? Let me know what you think:
