A fast FYI: I cared for my skin from the inside out with Aveeno® as part of a sponsored post for Socialstars #Aveeno®. All fabulous and ageless opinions are mine.
Another year’s getting ready to end. Which means I’m another year older. Ugh. (I know, I know… I really do feel blessed to be here, healthy, living this life with my family… but, UGH. Let’s just say it’s an ‘interesting’ feeling to see your 5 year old’s eyes get so big that they look like they’re going to pop out of her head in shock when you tell her how old you are. “That’s a LOT!” she says. Yes honey, I know. Ugh.)
So — in an effort to stay ageless and all things as close to fabulous as possible after having babies, I’ve started a few crazy funny habits to help me remember my youth.
For starters, I make an effort to go get ice cream. Chocolate for me, please. Sorry, but mama likes her sugar as much as the next kid… takes me baaaaaack to childhood. And doesn’t the cream in ice cream keep your skin supple? Yes I believe it does. (At least I’ll tell myself that.)
I’ll also plop down on the floor with my girls to sing like a preschooler only can. The hills are very much alive at our house these days… can’t help it, it makes me feel young.
I sometimes bust out and try on my wild-lookin’ shoes I wore before babies. No, I haven’t been able to let these go. Have I worn them out much lately? Nope. Do I keep them around for the sake of making me smile when I see them sitting there in the back of my closet? YES. So that’s worth it.
I go out with girlfriends. I know, I know: It’s tough to pull this off when you’ve got kids and husbands and dinners to make and people to tuck in and work to finish… but even if this only happens a few night out of the year, I feel younger and happier afterwards. And that feeling carries me through the messiest days of motherhood. (I’ve heard that all the mint leaves in mojitos provide a healthy amount of Vitamin A… which promotes healthy skin and supports your immune system. Just sayin’ ladies…)
I pay attention to my face. Aha. There’s the total-vanity portion of this program, you’re thinking. Hold on now, let me break this down: Yes, washing and moisturizing is the number one way to keep our skin in shape (especially during the winter!) but taking care of my face is also reminiscent of when I *actually had time to do it* before mom-hood. The current practice of doing it — and the memories conjured up of those days when I actually had time to do it without worrying about anything else — makes me feel connected to my youth. Like, I’m still worth it. (Yes, we’re all still worth it… and it’s not vain.)
Finding skin care products like Aveeno® Absolutely Ageless line, that don’t cost a whole bunch o’ cash and are easily accessible, make things easier.
Aveeno® Active Naturals Absolutely Ageless Restorative Night Cream and Aveeno® Active Naturals Absolutely Ageless Nourishing Cleanser are my current little helpers in conjuring up those college days of doing in-apartment facials with my roommates and talking about how we could never picture ourselves with kids (or wrinkles). Well here we are I guess… trying to stay ageless with kids and emerging wrinkles.
But you know what? I kinda still feel fabulous. And dare I say: Young. (Ok, ‘ish’. Young-ish.)
