A focused FYI: I cared for my skin from the inside out with Aveeno® Active Naturals as part of a sponsored post for Socialstars #Aveeno. All experiences are mine, all opinions are my own.
The time has come to go au natural… outside. (Hey, it’s spring right?) With Los Angeles’ incredible vacation-like weather, my little rascal is now starting to force open our sliding screen door and dash outside au natural the second I turn my back and unload the dishwasher. (She’s frequently au natural these days thanks to potty training. Yeah.)
My fair baby. Bless her little eczema arms. Put her out in the sun to play and she turns red in about 10 minutes. And then, when my husband comes home and sees her pink little face and body, his face turns red and starts accusing me of not properly taking care of her peachy complexion. Nevermind that she had good old fashioned outdoor playtime which inevitably taught her problem solving skills and valuable independence… “She looks red!!!!” he insists. Very insistently. Geez. (Fine, I know you’re educated and a doctor and kids are your specialty and all…) But you have no idea what goes on here every day! Am I right?
Tell me: What am I supposed to do when she hops in her car to cruise naked?
Am I supposed to tell her “no” when she starts climbing the jungle gym decked only in her panties?
If you can’t unabashedly trot around mostly-nude in your own home when you’re a toddler… when can you? (Well ok, so what if I did as an adult at one point…) Nakedness is a fun and funny thing for a 3 year old… I ain’t gonna be the one to take that away from her. Especially when it’s more convenient and time effective to sit on the potty without clothes on.
So to combat my husband’s red-with-unfabulous-fury face over my skills concerning protecting my fair baby’s sensitive skin, I’ve started setting myself up for success with Aveeno® Baby Continuous Protection® Lotion Sunscreen With Broad Spectrum SPF 55. Go ahead you sneaky little sprite… run outside while I’m not looking… the sunscreen is waiting for you OUT THERE.
Clever right? On the table. Outside. Ready to go. Right next to my humble rose garden. Just so that nobody ends up with a red face (and red arms and legs, for that matter). Easy access to nature and beauty are fabulous things. So what if our family skincare routine is semi-lazy… do what works.
I never recall wearing sunscreen as a kid. NEVER. (Of course, thanks to scientific research I now know better than to ignorantly point out that there was nothing wrong with that… who knows how freakishly young that skin around my eyes would be lookin’ these days if my mom had only slathered on some SPF back in my youth…) So now as a 30-something I sit outside, in the shade under my big umbrella, laptop in front of me, Aveeno® Sheer Hydration Lotion close by to combat those fine lines emerging on my hands. (I now look at my hands and think Wow they look like my mom’s hands... Wow. Let’s not even talk about my shameful fingernails. Talk about puttin’ it all out there…)
Lotion up. Type up. Look up (to make sure my kids aren’t eating grasshoppers or anything). Repeat. I will say that my little blue and beige bottle contains some of the most sheer hydration in a light body moisturizer that surprised my cynical self in a most startling way. Aveeno® sheer body lotion is a no residue lotion and quick absorbing lotion that lets me type and grab and feel super silky-yet-functionable right after I work it in. It even makes it possible for me to snap my fingers right after I apply it.
Because YES…. I snap my fingers at my children to get their attention when I see them picking my roses and I need them to stop. HEY! Snap snap snap!!! Stop that! Stop that I say!
Don’t believe me? Grab your own Aveeno® Sheer Hydration Lotion and take a tissue test of your own and compare against your traditional body lotion: Apply 1 pump of lotion to hands, rub in 15 seconds, lightly press a tissue onto your hand and snap your fingers. You’ve got residue-free, hydrated skin that’ll last about 24 hours without feeling greasy. It’s actually really cool. My girls and I have made it into a game of sorts. (I honestly didn’t even need a tissue to be able to snap my fingers in the video, but you can try if you want a fun activity at home just for kicks. If you do try it, let Aveeno® know about it using #AveenoSheerHydration.)
So now you know: My toddler plays outside practically naked and I smash in skincare while I work. Hopefully we will both live happily ever after with healthy, silky, protected skin…. snapping our fingers along the way.
