I love decorating. LOVE decorating. (Y’all know that.) Lights and glitter and silver and gold make me happy happy happy. Sorry, they DO. I unexpectedly got extra-inspired by Disneyland‘s over-the-top holiday decorations from our recent family trip (no joke). All it took was the tree that reached a million miles high to the sky when we entered Main Street USA. I was officially ‘holidazed’ and spent the rest of the day plotting how I was gonna make my festive mark at our home this year.
My only problem with this whole decorating thing? I don’t like to spend time on anything. If I can’t do it fast, I won’t do it. (Really. True.) So in the spirit of the holidays, I’m sharing my FASTEST and most FABULOUS Christmas decorating ideas for your home. I’m not a designer. I’m not a DIY-guru. I’m just a mom who loves shiny things that make my home look like a toddler-appropriate glitzy-glam-hotspot… and who has NO DESIRE to spend lots of time on it. I made up the following tricks with goodies I already had stashed around my home… hope you likey:
THROW THINGS IN A PRETTY BOWL. I’ve had these pine cones stashed for a few years now. Toss ’em in with a few old ornaments, add one BIG focal piece and BOOM. BAM. WHAM. FABULOUS. (Can you tell I really dig this?) Took me five minutes. Literally. (For some reason this first one reminds me of Cinderella’s stagecoach.)
STICK PICTURES IN BRANCHES. (I also like to do this with holiday cards.) Here’s what I did: Stick a bunch of branches in a vase (this display lives in my kitchen), hang some ornaments (I also had a plastic candy cane thing from I-don’t-know-where) and then prop your most favorite pics of the season in the branches. Pictures give everything a personal punch. We scored this snapshot at Ariel’s Grotto… meeting 6 princesses while eating dinner was my girls’ fave part. (Looking at the glowing expression on my two year old’s face in this picture makes me feel all magical and giggly… who knew The Little Mermaid worked as Christmas decor?)
TIE RIBBON EVERYWHERE YOU WANT. I like to tie ribbon directly onto my tree’s branches. In bows, in knots, wrap it all the way around. Makes everything frilly, fills up empty space and is F-A-S-T to do. USE sparkly or sheer ribbon. But then again, I’m a girly-girl… who has two little girls.
PUT THOSE TOYS AWAY! Why not stick my girls’ actual toys into their mini-tree? Homemade magic wands (leftover from our PSXO brithday craft box), toy glass slippers and a crown at the very top. We’re still in The Princess Phase afterall. (The fact that I’ve gone all mommyfied is shocking to me too… yes.) Very bibbity-bobbity-boo…
Things were going as gleefully as could be… until I perched Olaf and Elsa into their mini-tree for kicks and giggles.. both of my girls screamed and cried bloody murder when they saw their Olaf and their Elsa trapped. They made me take ’em outta there as fast as I put them in and then scolded me for even thinking to do such a horrible thing. What?! I thought it was cute. Geez.
