February is Love Month. Period. Last year I made the case for us moms to make an effort to love ourselves more. This year, thought I’d share five fabulous ideas for celebrating ourselves.
This week, treat yourself to…
NEW LINGERIE. After my big birthday bomb-out, I decided to get all flirty and fun and shake things up with my undergarments. (I’ve got a sorted past with my underwear and once had a panty-palooza after LadyP was born.) One trip to Victoria’s Secret sale and I snagged some new pink, turquoise and lacy frills that instantly perked up my panty drawer and inexplicably lifted my mood. Nothin’ like feeling like a girl.
SILENCE. Get a sitter, drop the kids off at grandmas or wait until they’re sleeping to lock yourself in a room, your car or under your covers. Don’t talk to anyone, don’t look at your email. Child development experts often emphasize how important it is for our toddlers have ‘quiet time’ to reset and recharge. We need it too.
NEW ‘MOM’ SHOES. Even though I’m still a stiletto girl at heart, I admit to caving to the occasional flat more and more (I tell ya, my back ain’t the same after LilMiss came along). The one heel-less kick I always go to: Tieks. They’re sleek, sexy, made with soft Italian-leather and know how to remind a mom to take care of herself from the inside-out. In honor of American Heart Month (February), Tieks has got sassy Cardinal Red kicks to snap us into reality and remind us that an estimated 43 million women in the U.S. are affected by heart disease (it’s the #1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year, more than all forms of cancer combined). So feel free look hot when you go to your regular health screenings, eat your fruits & veggies and exercise to kick heart disease in the bum.
SLEEP. We forget how much we need extra sleep until we get it (or steal it in our car). The other night I went to bed at 8:30 (on purpose) and woke up the next morning at 6:45am totally ready to start the day (in the most freakish kind of way).
REVISITING YOUR FIRST LOVE. I challenge all of you Fab-Moms out there to do something that you loved doing as a kid, a teen or a young (pre-kids) woman… even if just for one minute, one hour or one day. Do it sometime this week. I used to sing in my pre-kids days (like, really sing… on stages in front of people and at LA Laker basketball games and everything). These days, not so much… unless you count this. It may not be movie-worthy (and you most likely will cringe and/or laugh, but I don’t care. It felt fabulous to revisit my long-forgotten first love (singing)… with one of the biggest little loves in my life. WATCH:
Love your family, love your spouse and fall back in love with YOUR FAB SELF.
WHAT WILL YOU TREAT YOURSELF TO THIS VALENTINE’S WEEK?
DISCLOSURE: The Fab Mom received a complimentary pair of Tieks Cardinal Red ballet flats prior to this post, but without any kind of pre-arranged agreement to post about or mention Tieks on this blog. I simply love Tieks product and their February mission of creating awareness for women’s heart health.
[…] kids sing about Frozen, talk about Frozen, dress like Frozen and act out scenes from Frozen (ok maybe I’ve egged it on). We get it. It’s a hit (hitting the $1 BILLION made worldwide mark on Oscar Sunday, yeah […]
