I’ve always been a sucker for awards shows. There’s something about watching people’s dreams come true onstage in a room full of their peers (that surely some of them can’t stand) that makes my cry. Always has. Always will. But the past few years I’ve noticed that I now watch awards shows in a different way. I watch them as a MOM. Who has kids? Who just had a baby? Who’s pregnant? Who brought their mom at their date?
In no particular order, my fave moments from Hollywood’s awards season kickoff:
Brand new mom Megan Fox in that bangin’ dress… with her bangin’ bod, mind you. Damn right, you’d better bounce back baby! I’d expect nothing less from a Hollywood bombshell. (How’d she get her bod back in just a few months? I have a few opinions and guesstimates that you may or may not like.)
BRAND-brand new mom (of 3 weeks!) Claire Danes in her racy red halter onstage… managing to give a somewhat-coherant speech when you know she really had no idea where she was or what time it was (because of how NEW of a mom she is, that is). Way to fight the newborn-fog, girl.
Show hosts Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. First time for two women – MOMS – hosting an event like this. Enough said.
Best Supporting Actress winner Anne Hathaway recounting [in her acceptance speech onstage] how she watched her own mom perform the role in Les Miserables (the same role she won for) when she was just eight years old. Chills. And then tears as I sat on my couch. Not to mention it was THE best speech of the night (second to Jodi Foster). Plus, she played a mom in the film so throw in some extra points there too…
And then of course there was Cecil B. Demille honoree Jodi Foster beautifully telling her own ailing mom (into the camera)- no less than THREE times – how much she loved her on live television for the world to see. Classy. Articulate. Priceless. What stars are made of.
