A few of my worlds crashed this past Saturday at the first-ever Santa’s Secret Workshop celebrity and VIP event (benefiting L.A. Family Housing). What did I learn? LadyP has absolutely no respect for celebrities.
We got decked out at home and it was off to Sunset Boulevard! Woohoo! I was covering the event for one of my fave sites (Savvy Sassy Moms – read all about the fab event HERE!) and by default was lucky to get up-close looks at all sorts of hot new products for parents & kids (AND got to spy on celebrity mommies in action with their kiddos too… yes, they are like the rest of us. Even famous kids have snot running down their noses sometimes).
But my most memorable celebrity sighting was actor Sean Kanan from The Young and the Restless (aka: the soap opera I was raised on as a little girl… although he wasn’t on it then). Funny thing about Sean… we had previously met. He was a guest on HLN’s “Showbiz Tonight” on one of the days when I guest co-hosted the show back in September. I went up, reintroduced myself and said hi. To say that he was nice and gracious is an understatement. I was immediately relieved that he didn’t dismiss me for some crazy stalker fan.
Things were going along pretty normally until my 1-year old started running amuck, weaving in and out of VIPs with markers in her hand and causing havoc in the busy suite. Oh great. Now he just thinks I’m some frazzled mother who can’t wrangle in her child. I excused myself a few times during our brief conversation to chase my squealing LadyP as she went running all over the place and barging in on others’ cookie decorating sessions. Embarrassing! The most ironic part? Sean is sort of a ‘Mr. Manners’ type of guy. He’s the author of a how-to book for throwing fabulous parties — The Modern Gentleman: Cooking and Entertaining with Sean Kanan. LadyP exposed to Sean – and everyone else – that I’m obviously lacking in my teachings of appropriate manners when in public places. Great. (There went any shred of hope for an invite to one of his shindigs.)
I guess there’s sometimes no other choice but to go wild when in Hollywood?
