So I’ve been frequenting furniture stores these days… thanks to our big move. My recent issue has been what the heck to do with little LadyP’s room… specifically, what to get to house her growing collection of things you bounce, things you push, things that make noise… and all things baby-gear related. I’ve never been a fan of the typical baby furniture (she’s going to outgrow it soon enough), I want something that won’t scream “there are all sorts of baby toys in here” at first glance, and I want to stick with something tres affordable since Hubby and I have already hemorrhaged enough money the last month. It must be cute, but also chic to the naked grown-up eye. I want it to be her size… but also something that can last past her 2nd birthday without making her look like a baby. Tada! My solution hit me at home furnishing mecca Ikea.
Expedit shelving. $60, sophisticated black-brown finish, about 20 minutes for me to put together (from opening the box to throwing away the trash… no joke, this one is that easy). BUT HERE’S THE IMPORTANT PART (a Fab Tip, if you will): FLIP IT SIDEWAYS and lay it across the floor horizontally. Doing it this way allows easy accessibility for munchkins of all ages. The unit is not displayed that way in the store, but good things happen for everybody when you think outside the box.
Add some lightweight, peppy square cloth baskets at $5 a pop (easy for little people to pull and get their goodies out of), and you’ve got yourself an oh-so-wow toy storage unit that’s functional for years to come… not to mention a good time for all those fluffy little friends piled on top. And yes, there are toys in there.
