I’m getting my ass kicked by a 7lb(ish) bully.
As of 5pm today, I now have an appointment to be induced this week. (If you read my last post, you know that I’m dead-set against inducing labor.)
My doctor called me around 8:30am this morning to playfully ask where our baby was… and to revisit options about how/when we plan to get the stubborn little thing out should he/she refuse to appear in the next few days. At 1-week overdue with absolutely “no progress,” my doc (and my doc-hubby) will most likely prevail victorious in their push for Pitocin (or whatever else will work) before I’m 2-weeks overdue.
I whined all day about wanting to wait until things progressed on their own (and prayed that my water miraculously break by itself) but my husband reminded me of inevitable risks that build as each day passes. The risk that affected me the most – and made me change my mind about induction – is called postmaturity syndrome, which basically means that the placenta can stop working sufficiently when you’re past due. Some studies have even shown increased risk of stillbirths or developmental problems because of this.

SOLD. Induction it is. But, I still have birth-envy for all women who go into labor naturally. (Taking that shot of Castor Oil is looking better and better…)
At least I know what day to wash my hair so that it’s clean when I go to the hospital.
