Mind your manners, moms. Especially online. This includes myself, as I know I can get a bit bossy about social media for parents. Listen, I’ve had my share of offenses (like that time I got blasted by a slew of moms in a Facebook mommy group, saying how I’d violated their privacy by sharing happenings from the group), but I’ve seen the light and learned heavy lessons — the online space really and truly is REAL LIFE (whether we think so or not).
So let’s not blast our kids’ private lives all over the place. Even if they’re acting like brats, even if they look so cute sitting on the potty.
All this coming from a woman desperately trying to live two separate lives online and offline. There’s a reason why I use my maiden name for media and TV appearances… there’s a reason why most of the pictures you see online of my kids also features me in the picture with them… there’s a reason I created the schticky nicknames for my daughters on this blog (LadyP & LilMiss)… there’s a reason I cite “Los Angeles” as my place of residence (even though I technically live in a city by another name). IN THE NAME OF PRIVACY FOR MY KIDS. Because you never know.
Recently, the all-class woman of news Pat Harvey and I talked about privacy, shaming and inappropriate photos when it comes to thriving online family life on my weekly CBS Los Angeles segment. Nevermind my unflattering double chin in the thumbnail below (yikes! can we get that camera angle up a little higher?) — but heed our chat about unflattering posts involving our kids. WATCH:
So what say you? Am I totally paranoid? Totally right on? Totally clueless? Tell me on Facebook…
